if it's on NPR...it must be true...

We all know that I'm the closest thing to a hippie (I am, for the record, also the only one that believes in the truth that is NPR) in my family...but even I am guilty of buying plastic bottles of shampoo far too often and washing my hair every day - sometimes twice a day...well, just because.  Fairly recently, I stopped this process...well, stopped may be a bit much but I've tailored back...I've started washing my hair every other day.  Why?  well...my friends here at work all tell me how little they wash their hair and it always looked better than mine...granted I haven't had a cut in several months...so here's what I did...

Last Sunday I was out in Havertown without my toiletry bag and couldn't shower...so I showered/washed my hair around 1:00pm before meeting up with some friends for brunch...then I woke up a little late on Monday morning for work and I didn't feel like being rushed - or late - for work...so I skipped the shampoo...(yes, I still showered) - no one seemed to notice...so I continued the process...it's been two weeks now and I'm pumped...not only have I cut down on my morning routine 2 to 3 days a week, I'm saving money by using less overall...nice bonus...granted I'm making a grand statement like the chick in this article from NPR that went for three months...but that's the moral here, people...go green with out going crazy...

No pictures this time, but I'm getting my hair cut and colored tonight so maybe I'll post some early next week...

I'm off on a road trip this weekend...have a good one...

Until next time...

just an update, trying to push out the cold...

So it's been a very long time since I "blogged" (is that even a word) but I'd like to blame it on the freezing cold weather...having lived in Alaska and Boston when I was younger (almost 10 years ago for AK - eek) clearly did nothing for thickening the blood.  Oh what I wouldn't do for some warm, warm weather right about now.  You know, instead of the eight or so inches of snow that we've been getting lately...don't get me wrong, it's pretty but c'mon enough already!!
I'm sad to report that not much new is going on these days...I have a busy few weeks coming up - I'm taking a couple of trips and then my mom is coming for a visit...needless to say I can't wait.  I'm taking a trip home to Florida at the end of April, and let me tell you - it cannot come soon enough!!

Work is still work, I'm happy to report that I am among the employed, my heart goes out to the many friends I have that have felt the harshness of this economy, I can only hope that there are
rosy days ahead for these friends.  Maybe it's time to start your dream job, no time like the present, let this laying off be a blessing in disguise.  Billie the cat is sadly, still a cat - if you were here for previous messages you know that I'm waiting for her to realize her true potential as a puppy...we've scheduled her "surgery" for April 9th - poor thing has no idea that it's coming...I'm assuming that the transformation from cat to dog will occur when she realizes she can't have kittens and with no front claws all the fun will
be taken out of her 'cat hood'...And the apartment is still small - but it's getting better.  Chris built me some fantastic new shelves for the kitchen and that additional space has
made all the difference.  The additional storage, along with the new love seat, is really making me realize the space isn't so bad and as we all know the Rittenhouse location just can't be beat - so for now, looks like I'm on Locust Street for a while.
An update on the 3day walk - we're joining as a team.  Chris, his sister Danielle, her husband-Tucker and I will be walking together...under an already
established team, we're hoping this will help with our fundraising events.  I'll be sure to keep you posted of the events as they are planned.  The training - that should havealready started is just around the corner, just have to get the ice off the trails so that no one gets hurt...I don't think the Susan G. Komen association would be very excited if we had to pull out for a busted knee or hip...soon, peeps, very, very soon...I'll keep you posted.  I think this 'training' will help with my somewhat successful weight loss plans (at 13.5 lost now - a few more to go)...so we'll see...maybe I'll get up some before and after shots soon...one can only hope...

until next time...

no balloons again...but I'm still smiling...

So we've just gotten back (well, on Monday) from the Pocono's.  I'm sure I've mentioned that we were up for the Timber & Balloon festival...timber? you might ask...yes, full-on lumber jack competitions...small town, usa - I'm telling you, you can't beat it with a stick!  While there were no hot air balloon launches - 2nd year in a row, I'm starting to get worried that it's just a hoax - Chris was such a good sport and went to the festival all three days with me, in hopes of seeing something spectacular...no such luck.

The weekend wasn't a total bust, however, I got to fulfill a dream that I wasn't even aware I had until the opportunity presented itself.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I was allowed to actually work the festival!!  Yours truly served hot chocolate, pub fries (some plain, some with cheese, some with chili & cheese), nachos, crab cake sandwiches, coconut shrimp skewers, corn dogs and the infamous fried cheesecake from noon-ish to around 6:00 pm while Chris, his dad and a friend Dave were out golfing...(10 holes from 1:00 - 6:00pm, I definitely had a better time)...and while I'm not quite ready to quit my day job, I certainly had a blast...I went home smelling like a grease pit, dirty, cold and with no desire to ever see fried food again - but, let me tell you it was 110% worth it - I got to people watch all day long and I had front row seating for the aforementioned lumber jack competitions...I can't wait for my next opportunity to fulfill this recently realized dream.

Unfortunately, there are no pictures (these are from the previous weekend) from this trip  because in my haste to get out the door and up the road 2 hours in order to see what they call "the glow" (nighttime hot air balloon launch) I forgot my camera, along with enough pairs of socks for the weekend...but for those of you that know me, there will be plenty more to come, this season and those to follow.

and...at the risk of rambling, I have one more thing to add...while I was away, Chris' sister, Danielle (in the picture to the left, on the left), went to cheer on a friend who participated in this year's 3-day, 60 mile walk for breast cancer.  While telling me about watching and cheering, I could help but to be completely consumed with her excitement and the compassion she described of those participating...so much so that I can only identify the feeling I got as she desire to complete the walk myself. I have decided that I will train for and complete the 2009 race.  It will be here in Philadelphia, in October...I've done some research and have started a schedule of training (as of Monday) in hopes of getting in shape early enough to have it 'down pat' by the time October '09 rolls around. I can't think of a single reason not to do this, the money that is raised goes for such an important cause that can, will or has touched each and everyone of us...it just makes sense to me to do my part - no matter how small...

Come back for updates on how I'm doing with my training...hopefully my excitement will pull me through the winter that's just around the corner...

until next time...

all "good" things must come to an end...

while this really has nothing to do with me personally, I wasn't smart enough to bring in the camera to download all my pictures of the Pocono Fall today...so, I thought I'd share with those of you that might not know already...

Tommy Bowden's days of paw lined streets, triple t bars and screaming fans in death valley are over...Like many of you, I too had high hopes for him 10-ish years ago - what a great year that was for me personally - but just as I was forced to graduate, Mr. Bowden has been forced out of Clemson...proving that indeed, all good (or not so good in this case) things really must come to an end...and while I'm not sure I agree with ending his "reign"mid-season, and while I too am worried that we might lose our greats like CJ Spiller and Willie Korn will be soon leaving as well...I think that at the end of the day we will all agree that this was the best decision for our beloved Tigers.

Let's cross our fingers for the guy chosen to pick up the pieces, Dabo Swinney, and see what our Tigers can do with the remaining six games...C-L-E-M-S-O-N!  Go Tigers!!

stay tuned for fall foliage...you know you can't wait.

until next time...

it;s important to try new things...

know we've seen this picture before, but what better way to introduce myself (ha) than with something from the good ole' days...

Having said that, I've decided that maybe I need to have a blog...everyone else seems to be doing it...and well, let's face it I've always been up for what other people are doing...so here goes.  Sadly, I don't have anything exciting to post at the moment, but I'm sure that fun and exciting things are just around the corner and I'm going to want to share them with someone.
I'm headed to the Pocono's (for those of you that don't know, Chris is originally from up there...) for the weekend today after work...and tomorrow will be my first experience with a gigantic corn maze - gotta love "small town USA..." I can't wait!! Hopefully I'll find my way out and live to tell you all about it...

Of course there are some of you that like to refer to me as "polly polaroid" a title I take rather seriously... :) and for you I will  try to put up some pictures that I take along the way and share with you all the ins and outs of what's going on in the fun and exciting life (ha) of one megledu...

Also...in the spirit of all things new...I decided (sort of) to get a kitten in the last few months...I keep waiting for
her to turn into a puppy but alas, every morning I hear the telltale 'meow' that reminds me that I am now a cat lady...oh no.  Seriously though, she really is cute...and with my tiny, tiny apartment she's just the right size.  (and I'm convinced with enough treats, I can teach her how to play fetch and walk on a leash...)

until text time...
